Privacy Policy

Even Steven ("the app") is made by Robert Alec Jenis ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app keeps on your iPhone, what leaves it, and why. Questions: support@evenstevenapp.com.
The short version
- The measuring (your score, the red marks and the lines) happens on your iPhone.
- Your photos and THE FILE stay on your iPhone. There is no account.
- Only if you allow it, a cropped photo is sent to write the barber's note.
- No ads, no tracking across apps, and we don't sell data.
What stays on your iPhone
The photos you take, THE FILE (your scans, logged cuts, notes, favorites and events) and any photos you add to a day. They are stored in the app's private storage and deleted when you delete the app. Your iPhone's own backups may include them, depending on your settings.
What leaves your iPhone
The barber and the style label (only with your permission). To write the barber's note and name your mustache's style, the app sends our server a cropped photo of your lower face (for a neckline scan the crop can include your eyes), the same crop with the app's markings, your score and the facts of the current session. Our server passes the photos to Anthropic's Claude API, which writes the text, and does not store them. Anthropic processes them as our service provider under its commercial terms and privacy policy. If you say no, the app works on your phone without the barber.
Daily limits and Premium. Each request to our server includes an identifier for this app on your device (Apple's "identifier for vendor"), your time-zone offset and the anonymous purchase ID that RevenueCat assigns. We use them to count scans per day and to check Bureau Premium. The daily count is deleted after about 36 hours.
Purchases. Apple processes payments. RevenueCat tells the app whether you have Bureau Premium; see its privacy policy.
Diagnostics. The app sends technical numbers about camera captures and Live Shave sessions: head angles, light levels, which checks passed, your device model, and the iOS and app versions. These contain no photos and are filed under a shortened one-way hash of the device identifier. They are deleted after 180 days.
Field reports (only when you send one). When you rate a result or tap "Report this", the app sends your rating, the reasons you pick, your note, the score, and app and device details. Only if you tick "Include my photo" does it add the scan photo and its measurement data, which includes the positions of points on your face. We use reports only to improve the app, and they are deleted after 180 days.
Notifications. If you add an event, reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. We don't receive them.
What we don't do
We don't sell or share your data for advertising, track you across other apps or websites, ask for your contacts or location, or use face data to identify anyone.
Who processes data for us
Cloudflare (hosts our server and stores diagnostics and field reports), Anthropic (writes the barber's note, only with your permission), RevenueCat (subscription status) and Apple (App Store and payments).
Legal bases (UK and EU)
We rely on your consent for the barber and for photos in field reports, on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and fair for diagnostics and daily limits, and on our contract with you for Bureau Premium. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can decline the barber's permission, skip field reports, and delete the app to remove everything stored on your phone. Because there's no account, we can't look you up by name. To access or delete a field report, email us with roughly when you sent it, and we'll find it and delete it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object, to complain to your data protection authority, or to ask for a copy of your data.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
